- 1889  Our brave and heroic (?) special returned to Fort Francis a sad and lugubrious looking man, and if you wish to see a tear drop glisten in his eye ask the simple question, "where is Jumbo."
- 1946  The next day every civilian in the fort was sworn in as a special constable by my father, who was a justice of the peace.
